Harry Cartwright (b. 1993) is a British artist, living and working in Lisbon, Portugal.
His multidisciplinary practice spans across painting, photography, design and filmmaking. Constructing multi-layered ensembles that blur the line between observation and invention. Employing an inquisitive approach to colour, surface texture and imagery, Cartwright’s cinematically stylised compositions oscillate between the familiar and the fabricated. Everyday scenes are imbued with a heightened sense of atmosphere; where memory and desire converge in hazy, sun-tinted atmospheres suggestive of a half-remembered past.
The resulting works are observant, witty, and escapist; pairing the everyday with invented narratives, Pop culture and romance. In doing so, Cartwright constructs works that function as both portals and surfaces to get lost in, and where the act of looking becomes an act of longing in itself.
The artist received his MA Fine Art (2021) with distinction from the City & Guilds of London Art School. He has collaborated on projects with brands including Calvin Klein, Paul Smith, and Warner Music Group.
His works have been exhibited and are held in collections internationally.
